The Evolution of the Lyman-alpha Luminosity Function during Reionization

چکیده

The time frame in which hydrogen reionization occurred is highly uncertain, but can be constrained by observations of Lyman-alpha (Ly$\alpha$) emission from distant sources. Neutral the intergalactic medium (IGM) attenuates Ly$\alpha$~photons emitted galaxies. As progressed IGM opacity decreased, increasing Ly$\alpha$~visibility. galaxy Ly$\alpha$~luminosity function (LF) thus a useful tool to constrain timeline reionization. In this work, we model Ly$\alpha$~LF as redshift, $z=5-10$, and average neutral fraction, $\overline{x}_\textsc{hi}$. We combine probability distribution obtained inhomogeneous simulations with for UV LF Ly$\alpha$~LF. fraction increases, number density Ly$\alpha$~emitting galaxies decreases, are less luminous, though $\overline{x}_\textsc{hi} \lesssim 0.4$ there only small decrease use our infer at $z=6.6, 7.0, 7.3$ observed Ly$\alpha$~LFs. conclude that significant increase redshift: $\overline{x}_\textsc{hi}(z=6.6)=0.08^{+ 0.08}_{- 0.05}, \, \overline{x}_\textsc{hi}(z=7.0)=0.28 \pm 0.05$ $\overline{x}_\textsc{hi}(z=7.3)=0.83^{+ 0.06}_{- 0.07}$. predict trends Schechter parameters redshift fraction. find decreases universe becomes more neutral. Furthermore, faint-end slope steepens, characteristic shifts lower values, concluding evolving shape -- not just its integral an important study

Lyman Alpha Emitter Evolution Through Reionization

Combining cosmological SPH simulations with a previously developed Lyα production/transmission model and the Early Reionization Model (ERM, reionization ends at redshift z ∼ 7), we obtain Lyα and UV Luminosity Functions (LFs) for Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs) at 5.7 6 z 6 7.6. Matching model results to observations at z ∼ 5.7 requires escape fractions of Lyα, fα = 0.3, and UV (non-ionizing) conti...

Constraining Reionization with the Evolution of the Luminosity Function of Lyman Α Emitting Galaxies

At redshifts beyond z ∼> 6, as the mean fraction of neutral hydrogen 〈xHI〉 in the intergalactic medium (IGM) increases, the line flux of Lyα emitters can be significantly suppressed, which can result in a decrease in the observed number of emitters at a given Lyα flux. However, cosmological HII regions surrounding the Lyα emitting galaxies alleviate these effects. We use simple models of the Ly...

LUMINOSITY FUNCTION OF REDSHIFT z ∼ 5 . 7 LYMAN ALPHA EMITTERS

We report the results of a wide-field narrowband survey for redshift z ∼ 5.7 Lyα emitters carried out with the 34 × 27 field-of-view SuprimeCam mosaic CCD camera on the Subaru 8.3-m telescope. Deep narrowband imaging of the SSA22 field through a 120 Å bandpass filter centered at a nominal wavelength of 8150 Å was combined with deep multicolor RIz broadband imaging with SuprimeCam, then suppleme...
